Expression Boatworks

NZ-built fibreglass fishing boats from Whenuapai, Auckland. A father-and-son team with over 70 years in boatbuilding, design and offshore powerboat racing, building beach-launchable boats with American sportfishing style.

The brief

Expression Boatworks had a website, but it wasn't doing much for them. It was mostly one black and white photo, a slogan and a short mission statement. They wanted a site that actually worked: one that told the story behind the boats and gave buyers a clear way to get in touch.

What I did

  • Rebuilt the website in Squarespace with a story-led layout, from the hero video down to the enquiry form

  • Put the boats in action up front, using the on-water video Chris films out on the boats

  • Pulled the best of their existing content into a clear "Our Story So Far" section

  • Gave every model in the range (390T, 400SC, 400CC and 430CC/SC) its own write-up, specs link and enquire button

  • Added a "Book a sea trial" button to the header and through the page

  • Built an enquiry form that asks which boat people are interested in, so every lead arrives with context

The result

A website that shows the boats doing what they do best, out on the water, with a clear next step on every page. [PLACEHOLDER: add a client quote or a result, e.g. more enquiries or sea trial bookings since launch.] See it live at expressionboatworks.co.nz.

spot the difference

Before & after

expressionboatworks.co.nz
The old Expression Boatworks homepage, with boxed navigation buttons, a black and white photo of a boat near the Auckland Harbour Bridge and a short mission statement
The new Expression Boatworks homepage, with a full-width video of an Expression 430 on the water, the headline Designed and Built in New Zealand and a Book a Sea Trial button

The old homepage: a single black and white photo, a slogan and a short mission statement, with no clear next step for buyers.

The new homepage: on-water video front and centre, the story straight after, and "Book a sea trial" one click away.
